 The
Department of Adult Education (the former Evening College) has a history
of 47 years. So far, it has fostered a great number of professional
technical personnel for the country. Adult degree-oriented education
is offered in various fields and at various levels. The Department
has offered such programs as junior college education for high-school
graduates, bachelor's degree education for high school graduates,
and bachelor's degree-completion for junior college graduates. The
popular programs for the junior college education program cover the
majors of computer software,  electrical
engineering, applied electronic technology, electronic technology,
English,architecture and structural engineering; while the majors
available to high school graduates for bachelor's degrees include
economics, accounting, English, automation, etc. The courses offered
for the bachelor's degree-completion project focus on electrical engineering
and automation, electronic information engineering, computer science
and technology, mechanical and electronic engineering, civil engineering,
law, art design, etc.  In
2002, Tsinghua University revised its guidelines for adult education,
and from then on the Department of Adult Education changed its policy
so that courses in all majors, except in art design, could be done
through distance education or entirely through home study. At present,
there are more than 2,000 full-time adult education students enrolled
at Tsinghua University.
