Tsinghua University, established 96 years ago, is one of China's most prestigious universities. The motto of ¡° Development of self in accordance with the celestial principle of consistency; Cultivation of amplitude in emulation of the earth's benevolent support of man and nature ¡± invigorated Tsinghua students and staff members for many generations.

Established in 1985, the School of Continuing Education of Tsinghua University is the nation's first continuing education school authorized by the Chinese Ministry of Education (the former State Educational Committee). It is also the home of the UNESCO Chair of Continuing Engineering Education. For years, the School of Continuing Education, leading the Coordination Group of the National Continuing Education Society of Chinese Colleges and Universities, has made substantial contributions to the development of continuing education of China's higher education. Tsinghua University was elected as the Director-General Unit of China Continuing Education Association (CCEA) of Chinese Colleges and Universities established in 2000.

The International Training Center of the School of Continuing Education has developed many international cooperative programs in a wide range of fields, including language and culture, business and trade, management, law, arts and engineering , etc. By now it has established partnerships with many world top universities from the United States, United Kingdom, France, Sweden and Australia and provides multi-level, high-quality and international education programs for the purpose of enhancing the overall knowledge level and quality of the public.

Training Background

With the further global economic integration in the 21st century, the international exchanges between academic and research communities are intensified and correspondingly more attention has been gradually directed to China's language and culture, development status, customs and folk arts, economic development and legal system, etc. The School of Continuing Education of Tsinghua University, in view of this tendency, develops a training program: Learning and Practicing Chinese as the Second Language by utilizing the long accumulated academic resources and educational experience as well as rich domestic and international resources possessed by Tsinghua University. The training program has covered a series of systematic courses including Chinese language, culture and customs and the current situation of China. The program aims to help more foreigners to understand China.

Training Objective

The near two-month training program will help students to intensify their understanding on China's economy and society and improve their Chinese language levels and practical communication skills. The training program has embraced a wide range of training contents, including language practice, traditional Chinese culture, current situation and current affairs, field study trips and featured tour packages, etc. All these language and cultural contents and activities will enable students to have a general picture of China in terms of its culture and current development.

Training Methods and Plan

Started on the first Monday each month and completed within two months, the Training Program will cover 45 to 135 course hours by adopting face to face teaching method. In addition, featured tour packages are available for students to select.

Training Features

1.The customized course modules are designed based on the needs of foreign students by relying on the rich academic resources of Tsinghua.

The course modules in this training program are particularly designed for students from different cultural background who are eager to learn more about China's economic development, investment environment, and China's economy after the accession to the WTO and so on. Field study trips to some well-known Chinese enterprises have been included in the program. Students taking part in the training program will experience the unique school culture of Tsinghua, learn from the professional Tsinghua teachers, and are able to exchange and make friends with students from other cultural backgrounds.

2 . Professional teachers in the field

The training program has included Chinese teaching experts, professors, and lecturers well established in the relevant fields. The teachers also help design the course modules and training contents according to the demands of students for learning more about China's economy. On the basis of long accumulated experiences of international exchanges and cooperation, teachers will organize teaching activities in the way that international students are comfortable with. Language courses will be in small class and adopt an interactive mode. Cultural courses will be taught bilingually with an aim at achieving a high learning efficiency. In addition, established academics and successful personnel with relevant expertise will deliver thematic lectures of some hot issues relating to China's economic development. The Training Program covers a wide variety of courses ranging from basics to some high-level ones. This will enable students to broaden their vision and minds and have an in-depth understanding of Chinese culture during the process of learning.

3 ¡¢ A variety of courses

Target Group

Anyone who is interested in Chinese language, Chinese culture and China's economy and who is 18 years old or above and whose mother tongue is not Chinese.

Tsinghua University or the locations designated by Tsinghua University

Certification

Learners who finish all the courses and reach the required criteria will be awarded the ¡°Certificate of Chinese Learning and Practice¡± (90 course hours and 135 course hours) ¡°Certificate of Chinese Training¡± £¨ 45 course hours £© by the School of Continuing Education, Tsinghua University. All certificates are numbered sequentially by Tsinghua University with the steel seal of Tsinghua University and the red seal of School of Continuing Education on each of them. Furthermore, the Certificate can be retrieved and authenticated on the Website of Tsinghua University.

Fees

Application Procedure

1.Fill in the application form; send a copy of passport with two colored photos (2 inches).
2.The school will verify the qualifications of applicants and send a letter of acceptance to all qualified applicants.
3.After receiving the letter of acceptance, applicants will be required to send remittance , and fax the remittance document to the school.
4.Receive study materials and schedule, register and engage in studying.

Accommodations

On campus accommodations need to be booked two months before the start of the training program. Students have two options:
