Tsinghua International English Training Center
The Language and Culture Training Center, School of Continuing Education
of Tsinghua University, is established jointly by the School of
Continuing Education and the Foreign Languages Department of Tsinghua
University and is an institute specifically engaged in training
and research in languages and cultures. The center relies on the
rich teaching and educational resources of Tsinghua University,
takes the motto ¡®self-discipline and social commitment¡¯ of Tsinghua
University as its spirit, adopts modern technological means and
teaching models, and introduces advanced courseware from foreign
countries. By using independently developed teaching courseware,
the center tries to create the completely new theory for languages
and cultural training and to establish an outstanding language training
and research base.
 Apart
from the necessary teaching and learning environment for language
training, the center also provides other facilities such as teahouse,
coffee shop, small bar and mini cinema. The teahouse is characterized
with the traditional Chinese traditional characteristics; the coffee
shop manifests the Western culture and creates the environment for
communication between Chinese and Western cultures; the small bar
is full of cultural atmosphere with a lively style, suitable for the
communication between teachers and students; the mini cinema is equipped
with modern facilities, enabling the students to experience a lifelike
foreign languages environment. The students trained here will receive
intensive training in a new, relaxed and non-mother-tongued environment
so that they can master the foreign language more effectively and
improve their practical language skills.
 Nowadays,
the center has developed diverse, systematic, practical and abundant
training programs for different people, including ¡°Tsinghua Children
English¡± for kids aged from 5 to 12, ¡°Tsinghua International English
Training Camp¡± for Chinese and overseas young students, ¡°Chinese Language
and Culture Winter Camp¡± for overseas young students, ¡°Review Courses
for the Mainland College Entrance Examination¡± for senior middle school
students from Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan, ¡°IELTS English Courses¡±,
¡°Job Application and Interview English¡±, and ¡°All-foreign-teacher
English Training Program¡± for adults, as well as ¡°Business English
Training¡±, ¡°International Business English Training¡±, ¡°Chinese Situation
and Culture Training Course for Hong Kong Kowloon Chamber of Commerce¡±,
and ¡°Chinese Politics, Economy and Culture Training Course for Hong
Kong Institute of Technology¡± for organizations. There is also a one-to-one
Mini English Training Course for those who want to improve their English
skills more quickly and effectively.
 With
the support from the leaders of SCE and the Foreign Languages Department
of Tsinghua University, and with all the staff¡¯s corporate efforts£¬the
center has grown into a large and effective training base, with a
total number of 5000 trainees every year. At the present time, more
than 500 students are being trained in the center. The big efforts
and great progress have received appreciation from the leaders and
positive comments from the trainees.
The center also provides a large variety of English training programs
for the students and clerks in Tsinghua University. Since October
of 2004, the center has opened Oral English and Business English
Writing courses for the teachers of SCE, and developed Tsinghua
Clerk English Courseware for the Personnel Department of Tsinghua
University. In addition, the center has established a long-term
cooperation with Tsinghua University Students Vocational Guiding
Center, launched three terms of Job Application and Interview English
Courses, and organized twice ¡°Lecture on Job Application and Interview
English¡±. The success has received high evaluation from the leaders
of Tsinghua University, and laid a solid foundation for the center
to grow into a research institution.
During the past year, Tsinghua International English Training Center
has experienced the growth of ¡°from teaching to research and to
practice, from elementary education to senior education, from serving
education to studying education¡±. In the future, with ¡°serving the
whole society¡± as our tenet, more divers, systematic, practical
and abundant training programs will be developed for different people,
and a better language and culture training environment will be created
and provided to the society.
